Dad/Kids Campout

September 30-October 2
Registration is full - 2012 Dates to be announced

Participating in a Dads/Kids Campout is a wonderful way to spend time with your kids and enjoy the great outdoors. Reach out and invite colleagues and neighbors to join you.

Campouts are designed to give dads and their kids a chance to spend time together outdoors in the company of other dads and kids in a relaxed and low stress camping environment. We generally recommend children be at least 4, but that's a guideline, not a rule. We've had kids as old as 18 participate, so this really is an event for all kids.

Cost: $50 per Dad

Location: Group Camp areas of Memorial County Park in Pescadero. We take over all of the group areas so everyone around us is part of our group. This gives us the opportunity to do shared meals, have age-specific group activities, and enjoy our time with our kids and the other men at the campout. We do nightly campfires with songs, skits, s'mores and a message designed for both dads and kids alike.

What we do:
We speak openly and honestly about encountering God and His Creation in our camping experience and do our very best to love all the kids around us  as we carve out time for the Dads to get dedicated time with their kids. Be warned, though, this is not a spectator sport and it's not church-sponsored childcare. All Dads are asked to help in the preparation of meals and in the running of the campout. There are needs for Dads who can deliver a message, sing songs, play games, lead hikes, organize skits, play more games, push kids on a rope swing, and everything else that comes up in a weekend in the woods.

Logistics:  Campouts begin on a Friday evening and end on Sunday at noon. Friday is dedicated to set-up and a campfire, Saturday is a combination of organized activities and a long unscheduled Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening has a campfire program. Sunday morning has unscheduled time, a campfire service, and cleanup/tear-down.

Roughing it: This is tent camping. There are bathrooms with hot showers and drinking water available but it's still a pretty rustic camping experience. Meals are prepared in cooking groups so that no one has to cook more than one or two meals over the weekend. Memorial County Park has trails for nature hikes, we usually set up a rope swing and we play capture the flag. The beach is nearby as well as other parks that can be visited.
