Elder Recommendations

Elder Recommendation Form
January 1—March 1

The Churchwide Nominating Committee (CNC) is currently seeking recommendations for men and women for the position of elder. Your input is vital to the selection of our leaders.

Elders provide vision, wisdom, and oversight for the direction of the church and for pastoral staff and uphold the Gospel, dependent upon Jesus.  Elders serve three-year terms on Session, which meets weekly, praying for the life of the church and its members and giving guidance on church matters to our pastor leaders. Each elder is assigned to a ministry department to serve in a pastoral role to pray for and support our staff and ministries.

Elder candidates should exhibit strength in some or all of these areas: spirtual maturity, sensitivity and wisdom, discernment, and prayer.

The Bible provides insight into the character or qualities of those called into leadership.

1 Timothy 3 says that our leaders desire a noble task… They must be temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. They must manage their own families well.

In Titus 1:8-9, elders are called to be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined...Elders must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that they can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

Session is led by Senior Pastor and Moderator John Ortberg and Executive Pastor Rick Langeloh.
