For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. …Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
~ Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 25:35-36, 40
Whether in our own mission efforts or through partnership with others, we seek to provide everyone with an opportunity to respond to the good news of new life in Jesus Christ. We also believe that Jesus is Lord over all of life, not just our spiritual lives. Thus while we do proclaim God's love with our words, we also seek to put God's love into action. Following the example of Jesus, our words and deeds go hand in hand. We describe this approach and our missional values using the acronym SEED:
Seek Justice
Throughout the Bible we discover God's desire for righteousness and justice among people. While we continue to respond in compassion to immediate needs, we also address systemic issues of injustice as a tangible expression of God’s intentions for human life. We believe that our response to issues such as human trafficking, disparity in education, and economic development is an essential part of our witness to Jesus Christ.
Embody Compassion
When we provide clean water, feed the hungry, house the homeless, or care for those who are neglected, we embody the compassionate presence of Jesus. As neighbors helping neighbors, when we allow our hearts to be moved by the plight of others, we can become vessels of God’s love in a hurting world.
Equip Leaders
Around the world, we seek to develop strong Christian leaders who can in turn lead others and become catalysts for change and growth. In many parts of the world, opportunities for ongoing training and leadership development are scarce. By supporting seminaries and other training opportunities for ministry leaders worldwide, we are able to influence societies, build ethical foundations, and make a lasting investment in the work of Christ.
Disciple Neighborhoods and Nations
Whether across the street or across the ocean, MPPC is committed to sharing the good news of new life and hope in Jesus Christ. This is the core of our mission. All of our efforts seek to point to Jesus and invite others to take their next steps in following him. While we are a local church, we also partner with other organizations worldwide as part of God's call to “make disciples of all nations.”
